FCL or LCL?
- FCL (full container load): you book a whole 20-foot or 40-foot container. Usually cheaper per unit once you can fill most of a container, and the container stays sealed from origin to destination.
- LCL (less than container load): your cargo shares a container and you pay by volume (cubic metres). Better for smaller shipments, but it is handled more at consolidation and deconsolidation warehouses.
Indian ports
Choose the gateway closest to the factory or best connected to it. West-coast ports such as Nhava Sheva and Mundra serve western and north India; Chennai, Kattupalli and Tuticorin serve the south; Kolkata and Visakhapatnam serve the east. Cargo from inland can move by rail or road from an inland container depot.
US ports
East Coast and Gulf ports such as New York/New Jersey, Savannah, Charleston, Norfolk and Houston suit customers in the East and South. Los Angeles and Long Beach suit the West Coast. Choose the US port closest to the final delivery address to keep trucking costs down.
Sailings and timing
Most India–USA services call at one or more transshipment ports on the way, and timings vary by carrier, route and season. Check live sailings for your port pair with Atmavaan's vessel schedules, and allow time for export clearance before the cut-off.
Getting a rate
Search Atmavaan's online rates for your port pair. If there is no online rate for your lane, send the details and a specialist will quote it: origin, destination, container type, cargo and ready date.
