Under IPI, the carrier discharges the container at a US port and moves it by rail to an inland ramp such as Chicago, Memphis or Dallas. The transit time and freight cover the whole route.

Shipping from India to Chicago or Dallas usually means discharge at a US East, Gulf or West Coast port and rail inland on the same bill of lading.
